Alright Ihatetoast, this post is for you: Running in Central Park
Yesterday turned out to be a great day with the weather. I was shocked because Saturday had been so tremedously wicked. Anywho, because of this I couldn't put off running.
Sigh.
I had just planned on running in Brooklyn because I am too lazy to get on the metro to go to Central Park but then Aaron decided he was going to run with me and said we just had to go running in Central Park.
I was a bit apprehensive given that he has run many marathons and I think that may have made me ruin my mental game of sorts. In the 4 years I have known him we have never been running together. Jess is more on his level than I am.
So this is how I start my run, not brilliant but nonetheless justified.
I must admit, running in Central Park is very entertaining although a bit frustrating. When I ran the last marathon of course I had people passing me all the time, it is the nature of the game, you're in a marathon, just watch what you are doing yourself and don't worry about anyone else. Well, I didn't do that in my run yesterday, every person that passed me I took as a personal insult. Not only that but I did start the pace too fast at the beginning which led to some burnout.
No pride hurt there.....
Okay so enough with the complaining and now why it is good. There are so many people out with you that it's like being in one of my favorite places: the airport. I like to make up stories about people that I see and this gave me a plethora of imaginative playdough. It was pretty cool out and then for the last 2 miles or so we ran on a dirt track around a lake. When you got to the end you could look to your left and see all the buildings around the Plaza Hotel, plus you couldn't hear any of the people honking their horns which is a nice change.
I actually saw a biker curse someone out for having the right of way on a crosswalk. I think all the good he was doing his body by cycling was just negated by his mouth. I mean it is NYC but please....
All in all, not a very good run for me however, it was still a pleasant experience. Oh and plus we got Jamba Juice when we were finished so that was VERY good. :)
Anyway, I'm off to SoHo to shop for the afternoon. Ihatetoast I hope this tides you over until I can think of the other discriptive things to say about running in NYC.

I love the view in Central Park. A little oasis surrounded by huge skyscrapers.
Enjoy your time here...
aaaah, that sounds so cool. i don't know if it is in one of those books about the x number of things to do or places to go before you die, but i think it should be.
as for the cyclist... that's a free nyc souvenir.
